There was a terrific discussion I joined about gluten and the effects of eating it… could it be the cause of migraine headaches?  The moderator posed the following question, “Ideas about a potential connection between gluten and migraine are often trumpeted by the popular media, often with little evidence. People with celiac disease often report having headaches, so it’s plausible that gluten might trigger both celiac disease and migraine.  I have reviewed some of the research studies over the past 10 years: while there is some evidence to suggest that celiacs have a greater incidence of a migraine, it is much less clear whether gluten is actually a trigger or just an “innocent bystander?”

I shared the following: For years I suffered from a gluten intolerance and didn’t know it.  After a lifetime of searching for a correct diagnosis for my IBS, itchy skin, heart palpitations, poor memory, PMS, infertility and a host of other conditions doctors always failed to connect with gluten issues, I finally quit eating it and about 50% of my symptoms vanished.  Some vanished overnight, and others took months.

It all really seems to come down to a nutritional deficiency and poor eating and lifestyle habits I had to correct.  Most doctors are not trained in this art, and I had to seek alternative help.  There are only a few number of times a person can tolerate being called a hypochondriac when the real answer doctors should have given is “I don’t know.”  Anyway, I’m much better now.  If you have a gluten intolerance, there’s probably a sugar intake problem and an allergy to cow’s milk present also.  They all attribute to the body’s energy systems and ability to DIGEST properly.  So watch those labels.

Also we’re processing our foods at the seed level which is something we’ve never done before.  I am sensitive to gluten and my digestion performs much better without it, sugar, and cow’s milk of any sort, as previously stated.  This suggests to me a lowered ability to digest, period. The body has to have enough energy to digest.  The harder something is to digest, the less energy the body has to deal with everything else, like healing.  I have a lot going on.

I too found part of the answer to giving my body more energy by balancing out my nutrient minerals while avoiding, for now, what takes more energy to digest (that’s a little self-love).  I can tolerate items that contain gluten like soy sauce, with the exception of bread made with glutinous flour.  I think that has something to do with the horrible way it’s been mutilated through the modernization of processing.

Cooked or raw vegetables depends on how much energy the body has to digest.  I recommend cooked veggies to ease digestion, as most people are so energy depleted (seen a Starbucks line lately?) and berries as the only suitable fruit because the break down of fructose most all fruits contain can only happen in the liver, which puts a heavier load on it. I don’t know about you, but I want the liver concentrating on more important matters than having to deal with the sugar I just ate.  I had to also remove nightshades from my diet to reduce inflammation and heartburn.  A temporary life change of a few years or so to reduce the stress and allow for healing… Not an overnight or pill popping cure, that’s for sure… Patience is part of the healing.

In closing, I want to say that RELIEF was the primary goal whenever I had a migraine.  When either individually or in some combination of the following migraine pain relief methods stopped working – drinking a cup of coffee, taking a nap, or taking some sort of headache OTC medicine – I thankfully discovered coffee enemas.  (I wish I could see your faces to read it.  In person, the story often gets the “are you kidding?” look.)

At the completion of the very first 10-minute coffee enema treatment, I was pain-free, and felt like my insides had taken a breath of fresh air.  It was easy, fast, and inexpensive.  In combination with the food and lifestyle changes, coffee enemas continue to keep the headaches away while my body detoxes and heals.
