What You’re Not Being Told

Hashimoto’s thyroiditis is a common thyroid issue—especially in women in midlife—but that doesn’t make it benign or something to ignore. While some experience no obvious symptoms, it often leads to a gradual decline in thyroid function over time, eventually resulting in hypothyroidism.

Most conventional doctors approach Hashimoto’s by prescribing thyroid hormone replacement, typically for life. That’s the extent of the plan. Some may also recommend avoiding iodine entirely, especially if antibodies are elevated.

This approach may provide symptom relief, but it doesn’t address the underlying contributors to thyroid dysfunction—and it can create long-term dependency without resolution. That’s not a failing of your doctor; it’s simply the limit of the model they’ve been trained in.
